Cellulite Legs

There is a set of fatty tissue that produces the dimpled lumpy appearance on the back of your legs – this is labelled as cellulite.  Quite often, even thin ladies have cellulite legs – it is not only associated with being overweight.

However, there is one indisputable fact, and that is that cellulite legs affect women very much more so than it does men.  The reason for this is quite simple, really, and that is because just below the surface of the skin, there is a lining of tissue that in women, is much more tight than in men.  Whereas this layer of tissue, in men, will stretch to accommodate a build up of excess fat, in ladies, the tightness of the tissue means that the fat deposits tend to swell in lumps, rather than be able to stretch out  under the skin.

Yes, if you are overweight, you do have a higher tendency to have cellulite legs, simply because of the build up of fat under the skin.  This produces strain on the less flexible tissue beneath the skin, making little bulges appear, that we define as cellulite legs.  Some ladies, however, have naturally resilient skin and subcutaneous tissue that allows for a natural expansion of this tissue, in the same way that men have.  For these lucky ladies, cellulite legs are not something they ever get concerned with.  For the majority of ladies who want to show their tanned, toned shapely legs on the beach, this can be a big problem, the moment they put on an extra ounce of fat.

Diet alone has been shown not to reduce fat levels specifically, but to reduce fat in addition to more active tissue, with a resultant loss in weight, but not necessarily a higher ration of fat reduction.  Exercise is the key if you want to burn fat.  There’s no getting away from it!

The whole point is that dieting alone won’t get rid of cellulite because as part of your weight loss, you are losing some connective tissue you want to strengthen, and not lose, as part of your weight loss.  It’s essential to begin with simple stretching, to get the muscles warmed up (no more than 10 minutes stretching both before and after exercise).  Then exercise those legs to burn fat.  Not a lot of people know this, but, if you exercise early evening, then the fat burning process continues during the night as your body burns fat (there being no other fuel available, since you are sleeping not eating!) as fuel to repair the muscle that has been exercised.  So, doing exercises for cellulite and/or stretching just before bed, can actually increase your fat burning metabolism, so that those deposits under the skin start disappearing fast!
